Purdue 'Nanoantennas' Show Promise for Optical Innovations

Description Purdue University researchers have demonstrated new ways to accurately manipulate the propagation of light by modifying its phase. The team is using plasmonic nanoantenna arrays to tap into the next class of optical advancements for computers, telecom and microscopes.

The Purdue nanoantennas are 40-nm wide and are V-form structures made of gold and created over a silicon layer. The work builds on work on Snell’s law, first conducted at Harvard. Snell’s Law explains the behavior of light bending, refraction and reflection during its propagation from one object into other.
